Rio Negro - Rio Negro (Portuguese: Rio Negro, Spanish: RÃo Negro), the largest left tributary of the Amazon and the largest blackwater river in the world, has its sources along the watershed between the Orinoco and the Amazon basins, and also connects with the Orinoco by way of the Casiquiare canal. Its main affluent is Vaupés, which disputes with the headwaters of the Guaviare branch of the Orinoco the drainage of the eastern slope of the Andes of Colombia.
Amazon River - The Amazon River (occasionally River Amazon; Spanish: RÃo Amazonas, Portuguese: Rio Amazonas) of South America is one of the two longest rivers on Earth, the other being the Nile in Africa. The Amazon has by far the greatest total flow of any river, carrying more than the Mississippi, Nile, and Yangtze rivers combined -- so while it may not be the longest river, it is undoubtedly the largest.
Casiquiare canal - The Casiquiare is a distributary of the upper Orinoco, which flows southward into the Rio Negro. As such, it forms a unique natural canal between the Orinoco and Amazon river systems; it is the largest river on the planet that links two major river systems, a so called bifurcation.
Manaus - Manaus (formerly Manáos) is a city in north-west Brazil and capital of Amazonas State. Located on the Negro River near its confluence with the Amazon, it is the chief port and a hub for the region's extensive river system.
